For/From Indie Authors: Kimberly Spencer

Kimberly Spencer is an avid reader, writer, and non-arithmeticer. Yes, she knows the last one is not a real word, but seriously, don't ask her to count anything. If she's not working on the next book in The Faerie Tale Girl Series, she's probably fighting with her three-year-old shih tzu, Macho. And just like Charlie Sheen, he's usually winning. Her favorite authors are Cassandra Clare, Gena Showalter, and Rachel Vincent.
Advice:
  • Read the type of books you wish to write. Think about why you're drawn to those books, and try to implement that magic into your own writing.
  • Read your work out loud. If you have a kindle or another text-to-speech program, make use of that. You can catch a lot of errors and weird turns of phrases that way.
  • Before pressing the publish button, find some beta readers to give you honest critiques. Be open to their feedback, but remember the final decision is yours alone.
