The Siren Shawls....

(Update: I just purchased the URL www.SeamanScarves.com and will be posting updates to this project there!)

So I have this idea. Because so many people have written and asked for my Seaman Scarf Patterns I decided to design a collection (well, okay, three) of rectangular shawls in cable & lace patterns which will have coordinating Seaman's Scarves to go with them --- his & hers, Seamen & Sirens. Cool idea, huh.

I had quite a few balls of KnitPicks' delicious Merino Style, the only wool I really love working with, in three luscious colors: Fairy Tale, a deep purple-red, Storm, a deep smoky blue, and Fog, a soft, pretty gray. I wanted to create really unique stitches patterns that were both strong enough to be masculine but with a touch of lace to give them an airiness. So far I like what is happening.

This is the Fairy Tale shawl which is complete but needs to be blocked:
The stitch is a combination of diamond shapes formed by yarn-overs and "thistles" made with a single 3/3 cable:
The Siren Shawl in Fog is based on a Seaman's Scarf I knit last winter with a slight variation in the stitch. It is on the needles now and about half-finished:
It is hard to see the stitch clearly until it is blocked but it has an added row of yarn-overs:
Once this is blocked the yarn-overs will be more obvious.

The Siren Shawl in Storm is wider and a little longer and is also on the needles and about half finished:
This is a very pretty stitch which alternates diamonds knit in seed stitch with those containing 3/2 cables:
Once I finish the shawls I plan to make matching Seaman's Scarves.

I also have a pretty scarf knit from KnitPicks Ambrosia (cashmere/silk/merino) which they no longer carry.
I'm wondering if this stitch pattern could be adapted for a Seaman's Scarf.

So I'll keep posting pictures as the project progresses for all you knitting sirens out there.

Thanks for reading.

I'm completely in love with the Storm one. Will the patterns be ready in time to make them for Christmas? I'd love to make one for my guy and me.

I doubt I'll have it ready before the end of the year. I have to finish 2 of them then knit the coordinating seaman's scarves, then write the instructions and draw the charts, then photograph them.... it'll be awhile.

But I'm excited about this. I just bought the URL www.SeamanScarves.com - I couldn't believe it was available!

Thank you, ladies.
