Beautiful Two-Sided Silks

My beautiful pink lilac silk arrived on Friday and it is even more gorgeous than the picture. I spent much of yesterday in my sewing room sorting through the "silk collection" and picking out pieces I want to start with. While I was doing this I was struck by how some of the pieces with woven-in patterns are beautiful on both sides.

The lilac pink one, shown below with a piece of silver and sky blue silk, is like that --- either side would be gorgeous to be on the outside (all pictures can be enlarged by clicking on them):
In my stash I discovered a piece of rose-colored silk, 4 yards of it, from Thailand that is almost exactly the same color as the new piece. I don't know if I will use them together or not but I definitely could.

The blue piece has a pattern of Chinese symbols on it and, while I like the blue background with the silver pattern, it might be interesting to use the reverse side of the fabric as trim and facing.

Actually, that was my intention when I purchased another piece of silk, below, a heavy brocade suitable for a jacket. I fell in love with the design because it features fishermen, cranes, swans, and a lady in a boat:

But, as you can see, either side would be gorgeous. My thinking is that I will make a kimono-style jacket and use the fabric reversed for the cuffs, collar and pockets. I'm going to wait until my bolt of silver fabric arrives before I do anything with any of these because it might be a perfect match for some of them.

Yesterday I finished the handwork on my first effort at making a kimono-jacket for this wild idea I have for a series of them. I think it is pretty cool and will post pictures tomorrow. It is a gorgeous day here. I have some errands to do and then it is off to the sewing room to have more fun.

Thanks for reading.
